Edit: Big thanks to Nibbles and to Fardoche for driving it home. Definitely seems to be a Chrysler 200, I’m forwarding the information to the officer. Thanks internet, for solving the issue in less than an hour as per usual. Best Community.

On Saturday night, my friends and I attending school at UMass Amherst went to a get-together off-campus. While walking back from the party, my friend Andy was clipped by a car doing roughly 40 miles per hour. The car never hit the brakes. Fortunately, I have an entire mirror, so hopefully we can get this one ID’ed pretty quickly.

Andy was walking on a road with no sidewalk with another one of our friends, traveling in a bike lane and around 2:30 in the morning. The car drifted over enough for it’s passenger-side mirror to make contact with his leg (he’s probably a bit over 6 feet tall, so likely a car rather than an SUV), breaking his tibia and sending him to the pavement where he fractured his forehead and got a concussion. Fortunately, Andy is built like a house, so it could have been much worse. Our friend who was with him at the time said he didn’t get a good look at the car, since he was panicking, it was dark, and he was dealing with Andy.

The mirror was left at the scene and was collected by the responding officer, so I reached out to him for pictures, knowing this community would be able to ID it. When I received them, I myself was almost entirely sure we were dealing with a 2016 Honda Accord, based on the sticker on a piece of plastic saying the build date and that it was made in Mexico. After seeing the mirror in person, it looks vaguely similar, but is definitely something else. (Edit: I know guys, it’s not an Accord)I was thinking maybe an Altima but I haven’t had the opportunity to dig deeper because of my schoolwork.

What we know so far is;

Likely a car

2016 model year, almost all stickers on the mirror pieces say late 2015

The motor for the mirror is the only piece with a clear part number, which, when searched comes back as being used for Volvos and BMWs. The mirror itself, however, feels too light/cheap and lacks enough gadgets to be a European mirror (In my opinion).

The mirror is heated

Note the mirror size in the background

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This picture is slightly deceptive, as the mirror appears much smaller than it actually is.

All attempts to orientate these pictures properly proved futile.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Andy is very active, and this injury has not only left him unhappy and bed-ridden but has also cost him his job as a soccer referee. We just want to try and catch this person.

Kinja'd!!!

it could just be the angle of the photo but it looks like the mirror slopes out to the top and the Accord slopes in if its not just straight.

also the accord looks like it has a bump on the bottom whcih doesn;t look present in your photo either

Well the bump is for their lane-departure system. Or maybe its their blind spot system, I don’t remember, but it was a camera feeding back to the interior display and is an option. But as mentioned in the post, while initially dead-set on an Accord, the size of the mirror as well as angles like the one you pointed out have convinced me its something else. Definitely still thinking Japanese as of now though.

It’s not a Honda. All late model Hondas as in anything 2015 or newer have the lane watch camera in the right side mirror. At least I think that’s a standard option now

Got some dealerships nearby? Take the mirror and go for a few walks.

Probably a decent chance that the car is still offered new on a lot.

It’s still an option on the EX, EX-L, and Touring, at least according to the information I’ve found. Like I said though, definitely decided it wasn’t an Accord once I saw it in person.

none of those numbers is getting me anything relevant on Google. nothing on there looks like a Honda part number. Honda p/ns usually have the format NNNNN-LNL-LNN (N=number, L=letter.)

We searched pretty much everything for a part number without disassembling. Basically all we were getting was dates of assembly on stickers, and on many of the plastic pieces the numbers “2109.3016" and that it was ABS plastic. Google yielded nothing.

Didn’t think of that. The size is about right, age is right, and the Impala’s mirror looks pretty similar to this. Plus I think Chevy has a Mexico plant. Will research.

Yeah the shitty part about mirrors (no pun intended) are their lack of manufacturer part numbers. Every time a cop comes to me with pieces of one I’ve never been able to determine the YMM.

Shape alone is the only way to determine fit.

unfortunately, those are just the types of plastic in the assembly. that jumble decodes to “Polybutylene Terephthalate, 30% glass fill, Polycarbonate-ABS4.” the next line is “ABS.Polypropylene 35% glass fill.”

I couldn’t find anything based off of the numbers either, but perhaps contact Mirror Controls international directly?

MCi USA

E-mail: infoSalesNafta@mirrorcontrols.com

Couldn’t hurt, and they may be able to tell you at least a list of models that motor goes into. (That contact is also their contact for their Mexico division as well)

That was the issue the officer and I were having. We found a ton of numbers and such, but they were all material information rather than an actual part number. I was expecting to go in there and find a PN clear as day, strangely there is nothing immediately apparent.

This is really close. I’m not sure it had that line molded into the lower area of the ABS, but I’ll reach out to the officer. If not this, I think we can safely say Chrysler family.

You can see where the post broke off at the lower inside corner. Curve matches, mirror profile matches, housing depth matches. I’ve scoured nearly every 2016 available and this one is pretty unique. That acute angle at the upper leading edge, the seemingly massive depth of the housing (not something seen often these days), all the Mexico parts - says 200.

Call every Chrysler Dealer within a 100 mile radius. Tell them about the accident, and ask nicely if they will let you know if someone buys a mirror assembly. That’s going to be an OEM only part.

As was already mentioned, this really does look like the Chrysler mirror. I imagine finding this person might be pretty difficult though. I wonder if you could throw up a fake Craigslist ad selling a dark grey mirror from a 2016 Chrysler 200. You would think there wouldn't be too many people out there who need one. But, then what do you do if you find someone who does legitimately want to buy one? And without getting their phone number or who they are, it might be a little difficult.
